Posted February 15, 2018 07:48:18 A soccer player is hoping to keep his dad’s phone number safe after a dad called to say he’s going to a pub in his home town of Ballarat.
The man who called the police said he was worried his son had gone missing in Ballarat last weekend.
Police said they would like to speak to the man to help them track down the missing man.
The caller said he’d been playing with his son in Ballarra, south-east of Sydney, and that he thought he saw his son play with friends near the town’s main train station at 4.30pm on Sunday.
When he got home, he went to the house to check on his son, but the house was empty.
The father said he had just finished the day’s game and didn’t know where he was.
“I just felt a lot of anxiety and dread about the whole thing and thought I should call police and tell them what I was feeling,” the caller said.
“When I called police, I got a call from the chief, who said they were looking for the man and wanted to talk to him.”
Police are investigating a man’s call to the police in Ballaran, south of Sydney.
(ABC News) Detective Senior Sergeant James Brown said he couldn’t speak for the police investigation because it’s ongoing.
“We are investigating the call as we speak and it’s too early in the investigation to make any comment about the nature of the investigation,” he said.
A message was left with the police station, but there’s no confirmation it was answered.
The ABC has contacted the Ballarat City Council for a comment.
“The caller said the police had not been able to contact him and his father, so he would like the caller to let them know where they are,” Detective Senior Sgt Brown said.
The Ballarat police have issued a statement saying it was investigating the matter and would make no further comment.
